How I Got My Skin Back To Glowing By Eliminating Toxic Burden & Supporting My Thyroid

I have to tell you about my face!

I was having such a hard time with adult-onset acne (NOOOO!), crows feet, wrinkles and these god-awful lines around my lips that looked I had been a lifelong smoker (I don’t smoke).

I’ve gone through a few major stressors over this past year and my face was showing the wear and tear.

But the problem is, I don’t want to start slathering just any old beauty products on my face to combat this, either.  Since my diagnosis of Hashimoto’s, I’ve been consciously trying to reduce my toxic burden for the sake of my health and my family’s.

Your toxic burden is the amount of environmental chemicals and toxins that hang around in your body from exposure to modern life. (Here’s a great National Geographic article about it!)  Most of us know that things like lead and asbestos that used to be commonly used in building houses and other structures have been found to be toxic — but that’s really just the tip of the iceberg.

There are tens of thousands of chemicals used in household products — from rugs and mattresses to shampoos and deodorant and even your food — that are neither tested nor regulated by the FDA, and many of them have been linked to health problems, including and especially thyroid problems.

Some chemicals that have been found to be particularly worrying for your thyroid include:

  • Triclosan, an antibacterial chemical added to soaps, toothpastes, bath towels and many other products
  • Plastic-softening phthalates found not only in plastics but also in consumer products (whose labels may list them as “fragrance”)
  • Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) used to make nonstick cookware, microwave popcorn bags, stain-resistant clothing, and many other products
  • Flame-retardant polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) found on all kinds of household products including carpets, furniture and mattresses
  • bisphenol A (BPA) found in plastics and the linings of cans
  • and Bromide, which can be found in several forms. Methyl Bromide is a pesticide used mainly on strawberries, found predominantly in the California areas. Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) is added to citrus drinks to help suspend the flavoring in the liquid. Potassium Bromate is a dough conditioner found in commercial bakery products and some flours.

That’s why it’s important to be very careful when you choose products — especially those that will come in direct contact with your skin, like cleaners and beauty products.

The evidence of my toxic burden was written all over my face! And I certainly didn’t want to contribute to the problem with products full of mystery chemicals.

If your face has fallen apart like mine did, I can highly recommend AnnMarie Gianni skin care. I’m so happy with these products. They’re all-natural and smell so delicious. It always feels really luxurious putting them on and my skin is so radiant and soft now. Can’t say enough wonderful things about them! Actually, I said a lot of wonderful things about them here.

After my morning shower today, I was still in awe at the condition of my face — I swear I’m looking younger and my skin is glowing more! How is this even possible?!? They must put unicorn dust, rainbows and star beams in this stuff or something. 😉
